Come one and all to a great day at Hidden Valley this Thursday, February 2, 2017. Races start at 11:00 A.M. with hundreds of skiers from 10 teams attending. Refreshements will be available in the Chalet and all visitors and team supporters are welcome. Many volunteers from the local Ely area are running the tournament and if you would like to help out, there are many opportunities for volunteers. See you there.
After a week of very warm weather, rain, and lots of use, we still have a solid base of skiable snow on our trail system and the forecast is for cooler temperatures. We have kept grooming to a bare minimum and classic tracks are not at their best, but conditions for skate skiing are still good and all we need now is a little fresh snow. Come on out and ski so the Snow Gods know we care.
Friends, mark your calendars. The Ely Nordic Ski Club is hosting an evening candle-lit ski on Feb 11, 2017 at Hidden Valley. It will be a frosty and fun tour through a few kilometers of gently lit trails. See you there. Bring friends and kids. There will be refreshments and a warm fire and a warm chalet. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer.
The Cloquet Invite ski race that was recently rescheduled for this coming Thursday has now been moved back to the original date of Tuesday, January 10. All this flows from moving the date of the Mesabi East race to the following Saturday due to cold weather. But all is well and team supporters will be out in force cheering our Nordic skiers on Tuesday night. This will be the first night ski race under the lights and should be fun all round.
Many of our Club members follow our Nordic ski teams and were planning to attend the state wide races scheduled for this Saturday at Giants Ridge. Due to cold weather this tournament has been postponed to the following Saturday, January 14, 2017. This is one of the largest High School Nordic ski tournaments in the nation. Come on out and support our skiers.
